Is hail damage a scam?

Today on this edition of “Hitting the nail on the head” I will be discussing the topic  “Is hail damage a scam”? This is a very good question and it is a question we get every now and then, here at Near Me Roofing & Contracting. The fact is, there are many companies that go door to door, filing false claims all while hoping and praying the insurance company buys the roof. But these companies are very few and far between. The truth is most companies are just out to make home owners and business owners aware of unknown damage. Most consumers have no idea they even have damage, and its up to us as the professionals to educate them and guide them on what steps to take if damage is found.  Many times there is no damage and if anything the homeowner can sleep peacefully at night knowing their biggest asset is being protected from the elements. As an insured you pay insurance premiums monthly to cover wind, hail, fire and other covered perils.  Whenever hail hits the roof of your home, it may not be visible at first to the untrained eye. But over time between the heat from the sun, rain and the elements, this impact damage can turn into something much worse. The Insurance simply owes you for the damage, because the integrity and the lifespan of the shingle has been compromised. So the 35 year shingle that just got installed 5 years ago, now may only last you another 15 years. Our job as a roofing contractor is to find damage,  give an expert recommendation, and advise you on the steps you have either for repair,  or to file an insurance claim if it is justifiable.  Just like changing the oil on your car is routine maintenance,  we recommend getting your roof inspected atleast once a year. The issue that comes to light very often is, insurance companies are finding more and more ways to avoid paying claims. The Insurance industry is a profit driven industry, which means at the end of the day they have to show profit. And sometimes this means denying legitimate claims just to stay out of the red at the end of the year. Take a moment and research claims lawsuits and very quickly you will find this to be true. However we deal with multiple companies on a weekly basis and there are still good companies out there trying to do the right thing. At the end of the day there will always be bad apples, but its our job as professionals to realize we are all human beings just trying to do our job honestly. So to answer the real question; hail damage can be a scam if there is actually no damage. We recommend having the roofing contractor show you a full photo report of all damages, and do your research online regarding this company to be sure they are repritable and trustworthy.  And just like going to see a doctor, you may want to get another opinion. Because just like doctors, roofing contractors can give you a different recommendation based on what your own personal needs might be. We like to ask questions, so we can recommend the best course of action to help you protect your home or business. We are a locally owned company serving Northeast Texas and Southwest Arkansas. We specialize in Storm damage inspection, shingle, Metal and Flat roof repair & replacement. If we can help you please give us a call at 📞 903-949-3477.
